The last monarch

The last monarch "flew the coop" today. Out of 10 that we had collected, 9 survived. One emerged from its chrysalis and promptly died.

The last one was a female (see here for identification) and it seemed reluctant to leave. I encouraged it to grab onto my finger and it wouldn't let go. After a few minutes in the warm sun it finally flew off, heading to Mexico.
